Hello.
I’ve been very busy working yesterday and today. My lanyard has obtained 2 seperate and massive sets of keys to my new place of work. Yesterday was my first day of locking up, and although everything turned out alright in the end, what was supposed to be a 6 ‘o’ clock finish, turned into a half 7 close. I’ll spare you the details, except to say that the last thing on my mind last night was posting.
Funnily enough, today is the polar opposite. See, today is the turn of Seaweed: the accessory/clothing division of the business that is Haven Sports Ltd, and I am writing this blog in work. However, there is no internet connection, despite my valiant attempts to hijack any unlocked wi-fi resources. I don’t think the opticians across the way will give me their wireless keycode, and the chinese herbalist next door doesn’t speak that english too good. But he’s very nice.
So, the catch 22 is that today, I not only have the time to post, but I can also do it whilst being paid. I mean, I am working, but so far there is nothing to do. No one is coming in. On the opposite side however, is that without the internet connection to not only post, but also explore the web, I am feeling a little cut off but I will try and remember the good stuff I’ve been looking at.
Supermundane has some really nice freebies at the moment. The word ‘free’ automatically sells most things to anybody but his prints are actually very nice, and for the price of an envelope and a stamp, you could own a print (or send someone a nice badge!)
I spent an entire blog on Sunday highlighting global warming and promoting the effort to do something about it, and I tried not to ram it down your throat… yet I am still going to write this. In the shops, we have the DVD player going all the time. Yes, I know, is there any need? The fact of the matter is however, that I don’t make the rules so we make the best of a bad situation. There are a very few of some very, very good DVDs around at the moment. The Windsurfing Movie happens to be one of them, not just if you’re into windsurfing, but its a good video on all counts and its actually a really nice package. 3 Degrees, also, has something about it. In 2006, AE Productions released the BIG BLUE film ‘Feckin Cold’, which was filmed entirely in West Wales, near to where Hand & Face operates. It’s not a bad little film, but it is little at just over half an hour, but for all its size, its a mammoth effort. Thing is, I just keep coming back to The Elusive. Time and time again, whenever I have a spare second, I catch a glimpse of something brilliant. Whenever I notice it’s stopped, I press play, and I don’t know whether or not it’s because of the locations close to my heart but its not all set in Wales, so I think it’s just because it is edited and shot so well. It’s the closest thing that any UK surf feature film has come to September Sessions (which is my favourite surf movie ever) in recent years.
Oooh look at him, all arty and pretentious with a favourite surf movie but there we go!
I don’t know if Seaweed has a PPL or not. I think they do, and I don’t want to get them into trouble, but I am so fucking tired of listening to Radio 1 it’s unbelievable so I hijacked the stations yesterday with my iPod and iTrip but today, I have access to a nice CD player. I am of an age to think that CDs are still the thing to buy, but I hear stories of friends being ridiculed because of their extensive CD collections. It has yet to happen to me, and if it does, swift backhands may follow verbal tirades, but I’ve been using this bog standard, but very nice CD player since I got in this morning at half eight. So far, we’ve had Mr. Scruff and of course, Jack Johnson for the early morning surf-shoppers strolling in and out, but for the last 2 hours and a quarter hours, which means I’ve listened to it almost 4 times, because the CD itself is just over 35 minutes long, we’ve had the latest Super Furry Animals record. I don’t know what it is about the Super Furries but they just never seem to get it wrong. Anything they turn their hand to seems to garn praise and this album is so deserving. It was a bargain as well at only £4 but although I’d already heard it, I’d not given it the attention it has so obviously been wanting. That’ll definately be going on the iPod for long train journeys later on. Now however, I’m going to switch to The Album Leaf.
If I could have any pair of flip-flops en masse, in loads of different colours, I’d have this one. I may not be setting any new trends with this one. I know I’m not alone, but I’m sitting here writing this whilst facing a whole rack of them, desperately trying to persuade myself that I don’t really get 25% staff discount. The fact I’ve just put 3 pairs of them on layaway doesn’t help. God help my bank balance this week. That’s all I can say.
As we’re back on work-related topics, Rip Curl have some really cool designs going onto their t-shirts at the moment.
Right, I am off to get my lunch. By the time you read all this, you’ll probably have had your tea, but still, it’s good to post.
All the best,
Thom
