I decided my bin needed a new gimmick, other than just a place to put nasty, old things. It was looking woefully dull in the corner of my kitchen.
I bought an album called Lágrima a while back. The artwork for the album is by Soo Hong, a Japanese UK-based artist and illustrator. It’s a beautiful package, which is well worth checking out for both the art and the music, but Hong’s work in particular is worth seeing over and over.
Same can be said of Saelee Oh. Another artist of asian origin, this time calling California home. She has more of a simple style, not too distant from that of Matt Sewell, but that’s not a criticism. Her new collection especially has some similarities, to that of Sewell’s work, but she is in no way unoriginal, and has a host of other nice pieces of art on her website.
A bit more music for you now, but only quickly. 3hive is a blog designed to bring you news of indie artists but not all nesessarily from an indie genre. They focus on all different types of music; all different styles. They give you a nice little review of each band and you also get a few mp3s to help you along the way.
I found out recently that the company that I get my postcards from, Everydayprint, replant trees in Ethiopia, which I am really pleased about. I shopped around a little before deciding to just bite the bullet and get the postcards made. It was cheap, and easy, and if I’m being honest, not much else really entered my head; just get them done and get them in circulation. But after a conversation with Tom from Kaimana, talking about wanting to register our prospective companies and ventures with organisations like 1% For the Planet at some point in the future, I went about trying to see if I could do anything immediate to cut down the ol’ carbon footprint. I was then delighted to find out that my choice of supplier puts back what it takes, and I am happy to promote them to you. And seen as we’re talking about trees and we’ve already mentioned Matt Sewell, then it would be a waste of an oppertunity not to mention that he also does some sterling work for trees, even if it’s for no particular reason other than they are nice things really, but then again, that’s excuse enough in my book. Find it all at The Wooden Branch.
That’s a nice end to a nice blog I think. Be back soon.
